May the ocean teaches us
The true essence of loving
Someone so deep from far away
So we can learn to see
Every beauty behind this distance
The Story Behind This Quote
Sixteen thousand kilometers. That’s the distance between me and my significant other. Yes, she practically lives half the world away from me.
Never I’ve been imagined that I’d be close to or even have an intimate relationship with someone who lives that far away. But life is a box full of surprises; you don’t really know what you will get.
Being in a long distance relationship is never easy. It’s not for everyone. Especially for noncommittal people or those who have trust issues. Commitment, trust, understanding, communication, and loyalty toward your partner are the most important things that will help a couple to maintain their relationship.
Luckily, my significant other has them all. Of course, we have doubts sometimes, but they’re not really a problem. The only problem a couple has to face in a long distance relationship is the distance itself.
To be honest, it’s awful to be in a relationship without being able to touch, hug, or kiss your significant other. Both of us feel it and complain about it sometimes. Yet, we never let it burdening us because we already know the consequences of having a long distance relationship at the first place, and we accept the consequences.
Distance means nothing…
… when someone means everything. Cheesy.
But honestly, this is overly true. When you love someone who’s worth fighting for, the space between you and your significant other doesn’t really matter. It’s just a matter of time (and in most cases, efforts) before both of you can see each other again.
I’m sure if I and my significant other can work this relationship until the very end, one day we’ll miss this moment. This distance between us has taught us so many lessons about life. Patience is on the top list. It is important to have patience in a world that’s moving so fast and easy. When it comes to a long distance relationship, nothing comes fast and easy. But in the end, it will worth all the wait.
This distance also taught us to understand better about love. People nowadays are often confused about the difference between lust and love. “I love you”s have become the most misused phrase in the history of mankind. It requires a high level of responsibility to say “I love you” to someone. You’re not supposed to play with someone’s heart and hopes, aren’t you? Unfortunately, as we all know, so many irresponsible people have misused the phrase for their own advantage: lust.
We’re always supporting each other, even though we can’t directly see one another. Fights are also almost non-existence. And more importantly, we respect each other’s space.
