Some people give up on their life because the world has crushed out their will to live. But that’s life. It’s so undeniably mysterious. In this post, we’re gonna talk about 13 reasons why you should not give up on life.
If you’re visiting this post, there’s a possibility that you or someone close to you is needing help. Please contact the national suicide prevention hotline in your country. If you can’t find one, please visit https://projectsemicolon.com/ where you can find other fighters, just like you
Life is a gift. There’s no doubt about it. And I understand that at some point, life can seem like misery. Each person has their own capacities of how many problems they can take. Some collapses easily, some can take much more. Everyone is different, that’s why we can’t see every person with the same perspective.
I need to emphasize this. No matter how difficult your current life is, you should not give up on it. Not ever.
If you’re in the middle of something that is too hard for you to take, please bear with me. Take a deep breath. I mean, a really deep breath. Do it slowly, but make sure you feel every single oxygen that comes in through your nose. Feel how good those oxygen are. Be thankful for it. Because this intangible thing called oxygen can make our life beautiful even when it feels like hell.

Why I forbid you to give up on your life
There’s something I need to tell you before we talk further about this topic. I understand how it feels like to be on the edge of your life. In mid-2016 and early 2017, I attempted suicide. Yep, twice. I survived both and I still don’t know how.
Maybe life wanted me to learn more things. And maybe life wanted me to share those things with you through this article. Whatever it is, I’m grateful to be alive because of these reasons.
Here are the things I learned, the 13 reasons why you should never give up on life.
1. You don’t know what’s waiting in front of you
It can be something or someone. I don’t know what it will be. That’s why I said at the beginning of this article, life is so undeniably mysterious.
Whatever it is, I can assure you it is going to be beautiful.
It will give meaning to your life; a new purpose, a new dream. You don’t know if someone out there is constantly praying to meet someone exactly just like you.
You probably say, “It won’t happen, my life is a complete mess”. I punished myself with the same sentence over and over again. But almost every beautiful thing comes into your life in unexpected ways. So, please, don’t lose hope on that.
2. If love can end, so is the pain
Nothing is permanent in this life. All your pain, hardship and other things that make you feel down will sooner or later be over. Time heals almost everything.
The pain you feel inside might feel too much for you to take. But you need to know and believe that you are way stronger than your pain. You are only given what you can handle.
3. The sun always rises after the dark
It won’t last forever. And look at how those dark histories have turned them into. Europe is considered the most influential continent in the world, and the US is considered as one the biggest power in the world.
So, if you’re going through the darkest time of your life, embrace it! You can barely see anything in the dark. But only during the dark, we can see the beauty of the stars above our head.
Try to see the good things that happen during this time. Maybe you can see which friends truly care about you. Or maybe there’s a new lesson that you can only learn during this time like how to be resilient in difficult times.
4. Heartbreak is normal, resilience is special
Everyone has experienced heartbreaks at some point in their life. Simply because it is inevitable no matter how hard we try to avoid it. Sadly, some people give up their life after they experience a heartbreak.
However, it’s okay to be heartbroken. It is exceptionally normal.
But you shouldn’t let it define or control you. You are stronger than your heartbreak, and that’s true.
Take a look at other people stories who have overcome their heartbreak. Look at how they “bounced back” from their difficult situations, and then, write your own story. One day, you’ll look back at this exact day and smile. You’ll be proud of yourself for not giving up today.
5. There’s always a way
Do you think you’ve come to a dead end? Are you sure there’s no other way?
Then make your own way.
We live in an era where everything is possible, including putting toothpaste back into its tube. It’s all about your attitude towards your problems. You can’t find a way only at the moment you decide to give up. But you are more than that.
You can give up anytime, so why give up now?
6. You are perfect in someone’s eyes
If you’re feeling depressed, I know it’s hard to see any good things about you or about life. As a result, you start to punish yourself harder and harder.
I’ve always believed that every person has some unique and special qualities within themselves. You’re not an exception to this. I know you have some qualities in you that no other people have, and someone out there, is admiring those qualities.
Once you find that person (or vice versa), you’ll start to see how precious you are. Because indeed, you are precious
7. Even the rainbow can only appear after the storm
Storms are terrifying, but the rainbows that comes after it are always beautiful.
Your current life situation might seem horrible and terrifying. However, you have to have a hope of the beauty that will come afterward. This is one of the reasons why you shouldn’t give up on life. Because your life will somehow get better and get more beautiful.
Take a deep breath. Face everything you have to deal with today. And keep on having faith even there’s nothing happen.
8. You are not alone in this struggle
I know you’d probably hate to hear this sentence. But seriously, you’re not alone.
You can talk to me at any time. I’m not a therapist, or psychologist, or a psychiatrist. But I understand how it feels to not have someone to talk to about what’s going on inside my head. I understand how evil and ugly depression is.
If you ever want to talk to me, just go to my contact page and tell me what you’re feeling at the moment. I’d love to hear that and I’ll try to reach back to you as soon as possible.
And I swear I won’t sell you anything. I’m not that kind of blogger. I do this merely because I want to help you feel better.
9. The best is yet to come
If the thoughts of giving up on life ever crossed in your mind, then I assume you’ve only encountered the worst situations so far. You haven’t experienced the best things in your life yet. Or you might have, but the memories of it have been buried by the painful experiences.
Like I mentioned earlier, it’s just the cycle of life.
Things will get better again. Life will be beautiful again. It’s just a matter of time. As long as you’re not giving up now, the life-altering moment will come sooner or later.
10. Failure is just a part of the journey
Failure is heartbreaking, and sometimes it’s inevitable. Most people have the fear of failure and they’ve struggled to overcome it over time. But no matter how hard they try, they will fail at some point in their life.
I wrote an article about the benefits of failure and how those failures can be an advantage for your long-term goals. Here are the key points of my article:
- Failure forges your psychology,
- strengthen your character value,
- helps you to overcome your fear,
- keeps you humble,
- brings you closer to success.
I’ve always embraced failure despite the terrible effects that they draw into my life. I believe that they happen for a reason and I’ve come up with five reasons that I mentioned above. Once you understand this, you’ll never consider failure as a reason to give up on your life.
11. Your dreams never run away
Have you ever thought of this?
Your dream is like the finish line of a marathon. And you’re the runner. The participant. The fighter. It is so far away from where you start, but it doesn’t go anywhere, and will go nowhere. You’ll reach there eventually if you don’t give up on your way there.
And that’s the challenge. Not every people can reach the end line of a marathon. It’s physically and mentally challenging. And most of the time, dreams are way further and more complex than a marathon. It’s a long-term game. A strong mentality and determination are required to make that dream come true.
That’s the reason why problems are so necessary. It comes to strengthen your mentality; your will to fight. No one can finish a marathon in their first attempt to run, right?
But if you give up on your life now, you’ll never reach the finish line. That’s why I encourage you to keep fighting and stay strong for your dreams.
12. Remember Colonel Sanders?
Inspiring story time!
To make the long story short, I’ll list it in order:
- His dad died when he was 5 years old.
- He quit school when he was 16.
- At 17 he had already lost 4 jobs.
- He got married at 18.
- Between age 18-22 he became a railroad constructor and failed.
- At 19 he became a father.
- His wife left him and took his daughter with her at age 20.
- He became a cook and a dishwasher at a cafe.
- At 65 he retired and received $105 from the government because they thought he couldn’t provide himself.
- He was ready to commit suicide. But instead of writing his suicide note, he wrote what he would have accomplished in his life.
- He borrowed $87 and bought and fried some chicken, cooked them with his own recipe and started selling them to his neighbors in Kentucky.
- Remember at age 65 he was ready to commit suicide?
- At age 88, Colonel Sanders, the founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) became a billionaire.
It’s never too late to start over if you don’t give up on your life. You never know what’s waiting in front of you. It’s all about your attitude towards life, my friend.
13. I love you even if I don’t know you
I know this sounds like a blatant lie. But believe me, I do mean it.
I’ve always believed that each and every person in this world is unique and special. You may not think you’re not that special and that’s okay. Sometimes only other person can see the good in you.
And I’d like to emphasize the point number 8 of this article. The one that said you’re not alone in this struggle.
Seriously, you don’t have to fight this alone. Go find some help, talk about what’s bothering you to your friends or your parents. Or if you don’t want to be judged by them, you can talk to me. I won’t judge you at all. Or if you want to be treated by professionals, I’ll include the hotline pages and numbers at the end of this article.
I will always forbid you to give up on your life
There’s a lot of things that you can do in your life. I’ve said this gazillion times, but you don’t really know what will happen to you in the future. You may find the cure of cancer, who knows? You may be a billionaire or a gazillionaire ten years from now, who knows?
Giving up is not an option. So don’t give up now.
