I was scrolling down my Facebook feed yesterday. I saw a post by 9gag that inspired me to write this post about achieving and accomplishing your goals and your 2019 new year resolutions.
It was a picture that says, “My goal in 2019 is to accomplish the goals I set in 2018. Which I should have done in 2017. Because I made a promise in 2016 which I planned in 2015“. It was a funny yet depressing post, all at once.
You might have already tried everything to accomplish your ultimate goals that you set years ago. But most of the time, achieving what you’ve set in the new year is not as easy as turning your palm. Even though you’ve tried your best, there could be some external factors that hold you back from achieving and accomplishing your goals.
Achieving your goals in 2019The goals you currently have may be a great overall result of smaller goals that you’ve set for yourself. However, as your goals currently sit, you are setting yourself up for frustration and failure. Your goals won’t achieve themselves unless you take actions to reach them. It won’t be easy, but testing your determination and discipline is the fun part. Here are 19 accountable tips you can take to achieve your goals in 2019.
1. Identify your goalsOnce you start to set some goals, you may find that some of those goals will be more important than others. You need to identify the small ones but will have a greater impact on your self-esteem. Once you find it, start to put some actionable efforts on those goals. For instance, let’s say you’ve set a goal to expand your business. Break them down into smaller parts first. Make a list of those parts, complete with bullet points if necessary. It can be hiring new employees, building your second store, and so on. Fulfill first things first and calculate the risks of every action that you’re going to take.
2. First things first
It’s better to aim for some goals that have more meaning in your life and your career instead of the easy ones but won’t make you feel proud once you achieve it. Try to put more work on certain goals before you give full attention to other goals.
The purpose of this is to make you feel less overwhelmed by the picture of your biggest goal. Stressing too much on your main goal can frustrate you if you haven’t achieved them. For this exact reason, it’s better to go for your smaller goals one by one. By achieving those smaller goals, you’ll feel more motivated to achieve the big one in 2019.
3. Figure out the outcome
To be clear on where and how you want your hard works will result is another important part of achieving goals. It’s important to have an ultimate goal. By doing so, you will have more encouragement to achieve the smaller goals that will lead to the main goal. You will achieve more if you have a clear focus on where you are going.
I’ve seen a lot of people failed in achieving their goals. Most of those were caused by their inability to see the bigger picture of their goals. As a result, they stuck on where they were, feeling discouraged. In other words, they felt those goals weren’t worth the efforts.
That’s why you need to keep your focus and know what you are going to achieve. Once again, clarity and determination is the key.
4. Don’t rush, everything takes time
Doing something too slow or too quickly will distract your focus. Set an ample amount of time to achieve and complete each goal. Make sure that within that amount of time, you can get the desired results that you’re aiming for. Be reasonable and very careful when you set the time frames for achieving your goals. Failure to do so will risk your motivation and may discourage you to keep on going.
For example, you just started a YouTube channel and so determined to grow it. You’re so pumped, put out a lot of quality contents and believe people will love it. Slowly but sure, you start to gain subscribers. On the first month, you’ve already got 50 subscribers.
Because of that, you get even more pumped and put more and more contents there. You start to set a goal to get 10.000 subscribers in the next month. In due time, you only gain another 100 subscribers. The cycle goes on and on for several months and that makes you feel discouraged.
Do you get the point here? Everything takes time. Achieving your goals is not an exception. Set your smaller goals in the smaller time frame, and your bigger goals in bigger time frames. This way, you will keep yourself going without feeling discouraged.

5. Learn to be efficient on multi-tasking
To work toward a new goal while finishing out the goal you were already working on, you need to work in a stacked method. You can start to work on the next step while finishing the previous step. Working on this method will help you to keep the momentum going.
Multi-tasking is the simpler word for this. But this is not about working on everything at once. It’s more about working on the relevant projects at the same time.
However, you need to keep in mind that this method requires good planning and high commitment. You need to plan carefully about the things that you can stack and the things that you can’t. Commitment is needed to keep you doing the work without slacking off.
6. Don’t celebrate your success excessively
Celebrating your success in achieving your previous goals may be necessary. But don’t celebrate it excessively. Put your focus back together again and start working on your next goals.
This is the reason why you need to plan your work and set the time frames. When you’ve already achieved one of your goals, you are prone to procrastination. The success you have can make you feel superior, and that’s a dangerous thing.
7. Monitor your progress
Write down your progress and check it every so often. Not only it will help you monitor your progress, but it will also help you to understand better where you are and things to work on next.
Set a regular time for you to check up on yourself and be honest about the progress you are making. If necessary, write a journal dedicated to your journey on achieving your goals. Write your journey with honesty and read it every so often. This will help you see the bigger picture of your progress toward your destination.
8. Avoid overworking
Being highly motivated on reaching your goals can cause you to overwork things. You’ll tend to work on much more than what you can handle at once. As a result, you lose focus on what is really important and it can cause you to become stressed. It’s highly important to understand what your limits are and act accordingly about it.
Taking some time to relax can also be beneficial for your own well-being. Remind yourself that you’re a human and you can’t be productive all time all year. Too much stress can also be harmful to your mental health.
9. Ask someone to check up on you regularly
Having someone who can help to keep you accountable is important. Especially at times when you feel you can’t handle yourself from doubt. During this moment, you will need someone to remind you that you can achieve the goals that you’ve set.
Achieving goals is really not an easy thing to do. It requires a lot of hard work, focus, dedication, and commitment. Eventually, you will face problems at some point. These problems can cause you to feel frustrated and overwhelmed. It can also cause you to give up on your goals. This is why you need someone else to support you during the difficult times.
10. Test your determination by overcoming obstacles
Life is undeniably full of challenges and obstacles that are trying to stop you from achieving your goals. Don’t ever feel discouraged when they start to show up. Keep your head down and try to find a way to overcome them.
Obstacles and challenges are there to test your determination. You know that you’re trying to achieve something great. And greatness doesn’t come easy. Like I said in the previous point, it requires A LOT of determination to achieve your goals. So, instead of beating yourself when you face the obstacles, why don’t you show them what you’re made of?
11. Find new people who share similar interests
To find these people or groups, go to a forum or to an exhibition related to your activities. Go to an automotive exhibition if you’re in an automotive business. Go to a medical exhibition if you want to grow your knowledge of medic.
Make an interaction with the people you that find there and ask them how to join their group. Tell them why you’re interested in joining. Usually, those groups are open for new recruitments.
12. Accept critiques and suggestions with an open mind
Often times, your family and friends are the ones who understand you better than you are. Ask them if there’s anything that you need to improve and they might have some advice that is extremely helpful for your progress. They might also tell you several ideas that may never have crossed through your mind.
All you need to do is to be open with them. Ask them to tell you what they like or don’t like about you. Accept their critiques and suggestions with an open mind. This way you will understand more about you.
I quote this from Sun Tzu’s Art of War:
“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
Understanding your strengths and weaknesses is vital for your self-improvement. Without any knowledge about yourself, achieving your goals may be very hard to do.
13. Let toxic people be toxic, but stay away from them
As you’re progressing, you might find one person or more who will do everything to discourage you from achieving your goals. It is much better if you can cut them off from your daily life as they may risk your progress. You don’t need that much of negativity.
Instead, focus on things that you can control, not the otherwise. There’s no point to spend your precious time and energy to deal with these kinds of people. They will only hinder you from progressing toward your goals. Let toxic people be toxic, and stay away from them.
Here are some things that you can control:

- gratitude and appreciation,

14. Keep your mind healthy
I’ve said it several times in this article already. It’s highly important to keep your mind healthy. You will have to do a lot of works to accomplish your goals this year. It will stress and overwhelm you during with all the difficulties and challenges that you may have to face.
If you’re not a people person (in another word, introvert), you can make an appointment with a therapist. They are trained to help people to overcome their difficulties.
15. Listen to advice and ignore the naysayers
You don’t know everything, do you? That’s why you need to take the advice from other people that is worth listening to. Then, make it a part of your goal. Let yourself be vulnerable. After all, you can filter out which advice you can take and which advice you can let go.
Remember, only listen to the advice that is worth listening. There are high chances people will say something like, “you won’t make it” or “It’s impossible for you to achieve”. Don’t take these critiques personally. They say what reflects on them. If you believe you can make it, you will.
16. Be open to change and accept failures
Change and failures can be and will be difficult for everyone. However, changes and failures are oftentimes necessary to make the transition in your life easier. Don’t try to fight it and don’t feel discouraged. Instead, embrace it and continue moving forward toward your goals.
You may need to make some changes and face some failures on your journey on achieving your goals in 2019. It doesn’t mean that you are a failure. It may be a sign from the Universe — if you believe in this kind of thing — to redirect your path. In other words, the change that you have to make or the failures that you have to face can be a new stepping stone for you.
17. Dream High
Dreams are supposed to be the first step in achieving your goals. It’s important to have a dream or more at some point in your life. Every great accomplishment is done by a dream that was followed by actions.
Yes, you need to take actions toward your dreams. You can’t just dream and wish it will come true next morning. There’s no such thing like that. Use your dreams as the fuel and motivation for you.
18. Think beyond the present
In another word: visualization. It is vital to help you achieve your goals in 2019.
When you visualize the future you, you are sending an image to your subconscious mind that the future you is actually you. The subconscious mind can’t see the difference in time. It only receives information from you. Therefore, it inspires the actions that your conscious mind takes.
It believes every information that you send to it no matter what your current reality is. If you visualize yourself having a house with a happy family inside of it, your subconscious mind will believe it. Hence, it will ‘command’ your conscious mind to take actions to make it come true.
That’s why people always said, “Think positively”. Because if you keep thinking positive in a negative situation, your subconscious mind will believe it.

19. Never settle
You know that there are so many other things that can be done, don’t you? Instead of taking too much time settling on what you’ve achieved, it’s better to start working on other goals.
It’s okay to be proud and celebrate over your successes. But it’s not okay to stop yourself from growing once you achieved a success. Life is a never-ending cycle. Thus, you can’t stop yourself from moving forward. Pride is a sweet yet dangerous thing.
Are you ready to achieve your 2019 goals?
